Abstract:In modern building infrastructures, the chance to devise adaptive and unsupervised data-driven structural health monitoring (SHM) systems is gaining in popularity. This is due to the large availability of big data from low-cost sensors with communication capabilities and advanced modeling tools such as deep learning. A promising method suitable for smart SHM is the analysis of acoustic emissions (AEs), i.e., ultrasonic waves generated by internal ruptures of the concrete when it is stressed. The advantage in respect to traditional ultrasonic measurement methods is the absence of the emitter and the suitability to implement continuous monitoring. The main purpose of this paper is to combine deep neural networks with bidirectional long short term memory and advanced statistical analysis involving instantaneous frequency and spectral kurtosis to develop an accurate classification tool for tensile, shear and mixed modes originated from AE events (cracks). We investigated effective event descriptors to capture the unique characteristics from the different types of modes. Tests on experimental results confirm that this method achieves promising classification among different crack events and can impact on the design of the future of SHM technologies. This approach is effective to classify incipient damages with 92% of accuracy, which is advantageous to plan maintenance.Keywords: acoustic emission; damage classification; structural health monitoring; deep learning; bidirectional long short term memory

Abstract:The application of deep architectures inspired by the fields of artificial intelligence and computer vision has made a significant impact on the task of crack detection. As the number of studies being published in this field is growing fast, it is important to categorize the studies at deeper levels. In this paper, a comprehensive literature review of deep learning-based crack detection studies and the contributions they have made to the field is presented. The studies are categorised according to the computer vision aspect and at deeper levels to facilitate exploring the studies that utilised similar approaches to address the crack detection problem. Moreover, the authors perform a comparison between the studies which use the same publicly available data sets, in order to find the most promising crack detection approaches. Over three-quarters of DWI offenders in jail reported using drugs in the past. Among jail inmates held for DWI, marijuana (73%) and cocaine-based drugs including crack (41%) were the most commonly used drugs. Thirty percent of those in jail reported drug use in the month prior to arrest.
In 1991, 60% of federal prisoners reported prior drug use, compared to 79% of state prisoners. In 1997 this gap in prior drug use was narrowed, as the percentage of federal inmates reporting past drug use rose to 73%, compared to 83% of state inmates. As China lessens COVID restrictions, leading to increasing jet fuel demand, we expect jet fuel refining margins will be higher than we previously forecast in the coming months.
