As Peters noted, Perriello’s claim that it would not require a single-payer system to accomplish this objective simply ignores the fact that the vast majority of Americans are already covered under one form of Medicare, and the real impact of a single-payer system would be on the expense incurred by most Americans’ paychecks. Perriello’s attack on the Tea Party misses the mark because it gives the impression that the Tea Party is being fair game for criticism and ridicule. If Perriello wants to convince American liberals to join the Tea Party on social issues, he must convince them that the pernicious tactics of partisan bullies are counterproductive – so he should make a different comparison.
